8F35 Transmission Overview
The 8F35 is an 8-speed automatic transmission used in Ford vehicles including the Edge, Fusion, Escape, and Taurus. The valve body is a critical component that controls hydraulic pressure and gear shifting.
When to Replace the Valve Body
- Harsh or delayed shifts – Transmission shifts abruptly or delays gear changes
- Shift flares – Engine RPM spikes during shifts
- Pressure control faults – P0776, P0796, P2701 trouble codes
- Burning smell – Overheated transmission fluid
Replacement Process
- Drain transmission fluid and remove transmission pan
- Disconnect electrical connectors from valve body
- Remove valve body mounting bolts (note locations for reassembly)
- Install new valve body with new gasket
- Torque bolts to specification (8-10 Nm)
- Reconnect electrical connectors
- Refill with correct ATF (Mercon LV)
- Perform adaptive learning reset with diagnostic tool
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Always replace the valve body gasket and filter during service. Never reuse old transmission fluid. After installation, perform a TCM adaptive reset to ensure proper shift quality.
